Old Scholars started arriving at Chailey Heritage at 10.00 am on a sunny, windy Saturday. Tea and coffee was served by one of the lovely Volunteer ladies in the old Llangattock Room, now the Staff Room. I'm sure many of you remember it. Our Thanksgiving Service was conducted by Canon Simon HoIland, from Barnham, near Bognor Regis. Our dear friend, Canon Bill Peters, was conducting a wedding, so could not be with us. Thirty years ago, Simon was curate to Bill in Uckfield. Our dear friend and organist, Geoff Manvell, played the organ, and helped us sing heartily. Daphne Hewitt (nee Guy) read a prayer, the bible reading came from Ephesians Chapter 1, verses 15-23, and the Dame Grace Kimmins Memorial wreath was laid by Dennis Domm, followed by a prayer of dedication by Simon Holland. We then adjourned to the 16+ Dining Room, for a delicious luncheon, served by cheerful and helpful volunteers, without whom the Reunion could not take place. Later we had our AGM, when several Committee Members were up for re-election, and as no new nominations were forthcoming for these posts, the four officers concerned were unanimously re- elected. Several "new" old scholars came this year, and attendance reached 70, marginally up on last year. After the AGM, Chris Dade from the Children's Society, PAR (" Participation, Advocacy and Rights") Project, spoke to us about his work for the Society in helping to give a voice to all children and young people (including the disabled) in the care of West Sussex County Council. He showed great enthusiasm and dedication to this work, in which he has been involved for 11 years. We were able to make a gift-aided donation of £100 towards this very worthy cause. We then shared tea and cakes before hugs and kisses, as well as promises to meet here on May 12th, 2012.
