The day started overcast and a little windy but, because we are all Chailey girls and boys, we
were undeterred, after all we used to eat, sleep, wash and have school outside in the fresh air
when we resided at the Heritage!
Thirty old scholars met for coffee/tea in the Staff Common Room or, as the Boys knew it,
Llangattock. Our treasurer gallantly sat in The Link to welcome everyone. Ann Gelder
encouraged folks to buy for £1 a strip tickets for the Quiz which was to take place after the AGM,
and Pam, Richard Clark's daughter, sold raffle tickets; all proceeds to go to our funds.
The Rev. John Miller-Maskell, from Chailey village, conducted the Thanksgiving Service in St.
Martin's Chapel. Our theme this year was, "Contentment in Christ", our hymns were, Blessed
Assurance, Jesus is Mine!, The Lord is My Shepherd, Take My Life, and Let It Be, and God Be
With You 'Til We Meet Again, also the Guild Psalm (Ps.16), and a reading of Psalm 100. Clifford
Dann, the organist, played us out to The Ships In Chailey Dockyard. The Dame Grace Memorial
wreath was the laid beneath her memorial tablet outside the Chapel by John Suatt and the Rev.
John Miller-Maskell.
We then made our way into the 16+ Room for lunch, prepared by "Twizzles", who always excel
at producing a very good cold selection of meats and salads plus scrummie desserts. After the
delicious lunch and chat we had our AGM when the Committee and members accepted our Hon.
Secretary's resignation and also that of David Jones. I as your Chairman was re-elected by a
majority vote. The other Committee members were also re-elected and George Gelder offered to
take on the role as Hon. Secretary.
Michael Smedmore, Steven's brother, won our Quiz, and 2nd prize was shared by several
members, who donated their winnings to the funds. Then we held the Raffle for which there were
a goodly selection of prizes. The day ended with delicious cakes and a cup of tea before we
started to wend our way to our various homes
The Summer outing will be to Hever Castle again, date and time to be advised later. Also the
Christmas luncheon will be at the Old Forge, Halland unless otherwise stated. Next year's
Reunion Day will be on Saturday, 14th May 2016 at the Heritage. We hope we may see you
there.
From your Chairman, Janet.
