Our Reunion Day was not to be bright and sunny, unfortunately, it was overcast and by lunch time it
was raining. But it did not deter our enjoyment of the day. There were 24 Old Scholars plus 37 family
members, friends, guests and carers. It was particularly good to see Glyn Lloyd and his wife who
haven' been back to the Heritage for 57 years. They came down from Gloucestershire, and Grahame
Tindale with his wife, Khanh and nieces, Phuong and Kim Kim plus Harry who journeyed from Hull.
These lovely ladies and Harry helped serve our delicious luncheon and also helped those who
needed serving at table. We offer them our grateful thanks for their efforts . The luncheon was
produced by Twizzles who have been our caterers for a number of years now. We mustn't forget Ann
and Chris Jones who do so much behind the scenes in setting up the lunch area and much, much
more besides.
Our Thanksgiving Service was conducted by the Rev. John Miller-Maskell. The hymns were as
follows:- (1) For The Beauty of The Earth, The Guild Psalm 16, (2) Give Me Joy In My Heart, (3)
What A Friend We Have In Jesus, (4) God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again. The prayer was read by
Gordon Hobbs and the Lesson by Janet Wilkins. The Lesson was from Mark's Gospel, chapter 12,
verses 28-34. Andy Rees, organist at St. Peter's church in Chailey village, played us out to "The
Ships In Chailey Dockyard". The Dame Grace Memorial wreath was laid by Dennis Domm and The
Rev. John gave a blessing.
After luncheon we taxed our brains with Richard's quiz, which was won by Steven Smedmore and his
brother. We then held our AGM when we fixed the dates for our Summer Outing to The British
Wildlife Trust, Newchapel, Surrey for Saturday, 8th September, 12 noon, and for our Christmas
Luncheon at The Highlands Inn, Uckfield on 15th December, 12 noon for 1pm. There will be more on
the web at a later date. The re-election of officers to the Committee took place, we were all willing to
stand again except Richard Clark who is retiring, however David Jones has offered to stand again
and his nomination was duly accepted by the members and we thanked Richard for his time on the
Committee.
Several members who would normally have been with us were sadly unable come due to ill health or
other circumstances. We have also had several deaths reported:- David Buggy, Roger Cooper, Sarah
Ewins, Maurice Cole and we believe Harold Hibberd has died too. If anyone knows of an Old
Scholar's death please let the Secretary, George Gelder know.
We do still need your stories and articles for the Magazine, please, please put pen to paper or finger
to key button and send us your stories, poems, thoughts for YOUR magazine, If we do not receive
anything from you, the members, there will be NO MAGAZINE next year. So do get writing, thank
you.
We then held our Raffle before enjoying a slice of delicious cake and a cup of tea before we departed
for another year. Our 2019 Reunion will be on Saturday, 11th May and I will look forward to seeing
you all then, God Bless and have a busy, healthy year.
Janet Wilkins.
Chairman.
