Funny thing about Easter Easter at Chailey always bring back memories of coming into the entrance of St. Helens and seeing a large Easter Egg decorated with flowers. By large, I mean at least three feet tall…but it was a few years ago now! I have often wondered who, why, and where it came from. I’ve often thought that it came from one of the chocolate factories where several patients had families that worked in them. So much chocolate and sweets were brought in by parents for their children that they were “taken into protective custody” by the staff after every visiting day. They were doled out to the whole ward one sweet at a time each evening. As I only ever had one visitor during the time at Chailey I was immensely grateful for the evening sweet round. So when, later on when I was mobile, I managed to get to the sweet shop in the village, I spent my pennies on “Flying Saucers” and an ounce of sherbet lemons! As for chocolate Easter Eggs…… well I loathe them. And this year, in a cruel irony of fate, I was gifted with three of them. My husband is going on a diet in May!
